Regulation of transcription has a key role in the physiology of all organisms especially in the environment adaptation. Gene transcription control is mediated by transcription factors that bind to specific DNA regulatory sequence elements. Hence, identification of regulatory motifs is crucial in the study of gene expression.
Transcription factors are proteins that frequently adopt antiparallel dimeric structures that bind DNA palindromic motifs. These motifs are often highly divergent in sequence but in many cases share conserved palindromic motifs. Palinsight© allows the analysis of palindromicity conservation independent of sequence conservation and is very useful to define and search palindromic patterns in a set of DNA sequences.
The input sequences can be introduced by the user in raw text format. The program can manage up to 100 DNA sequences simultaneously visualizing the palindromicity in a 50 nucleotides window. The pattern to be searched is defined in a visual interface in which the user can fix the requirements of sequence and palindromicity for each position.
